This man was worried for the safety of his newborn baby.

Greg Heynen was about to become a father soon, and was quite worried about the child’s safety. He was afraid that his wife’s Pit Bull/Labrador mix Zack might harm the new-born child. He even told his wife that if he found that Zack did anything to harm his child, he would no longer tolerate the dog in his house, and that he would have to leave immediately.

Love At First Sight

All of his fears were gone soon after the birth of their daughter, since Zack loved the baby a lot – he even used to constantly keep on licking her so much that her father was forced to pull him away. He was always protective of her, and used to keep one paw on her blanket when she used to sleep.

Best friends

Zack gradually became best friends with her – he would often sleep with her in bed, and would even wait for her at the foot of the staircase, so that the two of them could go up the stairs together to her room.

Tragedy

All good things come to an end. After a few years, tragedy struck when a few kids from the neighbourhood poisoned Zack. Needless to say, the daughter was extremely upset and heartbroken after hearing this news since Zack was her best friend.

Sam!

The same night, the daughter came to the foot of the stairs waiting for Zack, but soon stopped since she realised Zack would no longer be there and wait for her. However, Sam, Greg’s own dog, came up to the little girl and then pushed her forward to go upstairs. Since then, Sam had replaced Zack’s role and used to come and wait for her every night at the stairs for 6 years.
